TCP/IP Access Control

The network administrator can set the number of TCP/IP connections with the SNMP SET TCPMAXCONNECTIONS command. The value specified in this command can be from 1 through 65535. The TCP/IP style-ID of your system determines the default value of the TCPMAXCONNECTIONS attribute.

You can use the TCPMAXCONNECTIONS attribute to determine if the system permits you to establish a TCP/IP connection.

Note: The system does not consider a TCP/IP connection in the listen state to be used until that connection is matched with an incoming connection request.

As the number of TCP/IP active connections increases, the system generates reports to indicate how close the network is to the limit. Specifically, the system generates a report when the network reaches 80, 90, and 95 percent of its maximum. Once the network reaches 100 percent, the system rejects any request for connection establishment.
