Preparing for Use

Before you can encrypt or decrypt a tape using library maintenance you must ensure that

  • Your system has the proper hardware to support encryption.

  • Your system has the proper software components installed.

  • A set of tape encryption keys has been created.

  • Systems sharing tapes can use the same encryption algorithm and media encryption version. A system that supports Media Encryption Version 2 can read and write both version 1 and version 2 formatted media. A system that supports version 1 tape encryption can only read and write version 1 tapes.
