Reinitializing the System

The security features continue in effect across halt/loads of the system. All the security options that are set when you designate CLASS = S2 for the SECOPT command remain in effect when the system is brought up after a halt/load.

Once tape-volume security is activated, it continues across halt/load procedures unless it is specifically deactivated. However, if for some reason the system cannot locate the tape volume directory—if the file is on a disk pack that is not online, for example—then during the halt/load sequence, the message “OK TO CREATE VOLUME DIRECTORY” appears on the ODT.

 Caution

If the operator responds OK, the system creates a new volume directory and all the information in the existing volume directory is lost.

Generally, the appropriate action for the operator to take is to locate the current volume directory and make it available to the system. The volume directory resides in the catalog file, and its disk family location is controlled with the DL CATALOG form of the DL (Disk Location) system command.
