The RECORDCOUNT option enables you to collect the number of records in the structure without locking the global structure of the database. This option is only valid for a disjoint dataset and set. A reorganization program is required to perform when changed from reset to set. However, it only requires performing a DMCONTROL UPDATE operation to disable the option. The RECORDCOUNT information is stored in the control file under each structure and can be retrieved through the DMUTILITY LIST/WRITE command.
