Defaults are used to assign default attributes to data items, data sets, sets, subsets, and other database items. Specifying the value of an attribute using a default is equivalent to specifying the attribute for each item or structure in the database for which the attribute is appropriate. The defaults specification applies to each element of the database unless they are explicitly overridden for the particular element.
