Explanatory Notes

  1. Changing the DUPLICATED attribute affects recovery that uses the existing audit trails. If duplicated audit is added and if a recovery process that uses audit trails produced before the change is necessary, the COPYAUDIT utility can be used to produce secondary audits from existing primary audits. When duplicated audit is eliminated, the recovery process does not use the secondary audit trails should the primary audit fail.

  2. When the primary audit media or secondary audit media is changed, the recovery process expects to find the audit trail on the new device. If a recovery process that uses audit trails produced before the change is necessary, the old audit trail can be copied to the new device using the COPYAUDIT utility.

If the database specifies the audit trail attribute COPY, the COPYAUDIT utility automatically runs and attempts to locate the audit file based on the current specifications for the primary and secondary audit media. If you change the disk/pack specification for the primary or secondary audit media, the COPYAUDIT utility cannot find the last disk audit on the previously specified pack. If you changed the disk/pack specification, you must manually initiate the COPYAUDIT utility to copy the last disk audit from the previously specified pack.

If the last audit is not copied automatically, you must manually initiate the COPYAUDIT utility to back up the last disk audit.

  3. Recompilation of tailored data management software is not necessary.

  4. If the attributes associated with these options are changed through the Visible Database Stack (VDBS or Visual DBS) facility, a SYSTEM/DMCONTROL OVERRIDE operation must be performed before changes specified through DASDL can take effect.
