This section contains the CANDE commands for
-
Task initiation
-
Work file creation, user library manipulation
-
Text editing
-
Miscellaneous tasks
The commands are presented in alphabetical order along with the railroad syntax structure, explanation, and simple examples.
Commands for which the syntax diagram terminates with a
-
Percent sign (%) must appear alone on the input record to CANDE or as the last command of that input record.
-
Vertical bar (|) may appear in sequence on the input record, each command separated from the following command by a semicolon (;).
CANDE commands can be abbreviated for convenience. CANDE checks only the first four characters of a command; however, some frequently used commands have shorter abbreviations.
For example, the MAKE command can be abbreviated to M, and the SAVE command can be abbreviated to SA.
Acceptable forms of the MAKE command are
-
M
-
MA
-
MAK
-
MAKE
-
MAKEIT
-
MAKEFILE
-
MAKEWORKFILE
Using Periods in Unquoted File Names and Long File Names
In general, CANDE does not allow the use of periods in unquoted file names and provides limited support for long file names.
You can use periods in unquoted file names for CANDE commands that directly invoke Work Flow Language (WFL) statements that have the same name.
These CANDE commands are
ADD |
ALTER |
COPY |
|
UNWRAP |
WRAP |
ARCHIVE |
CATALOG |
MKDIR |
You cannot use periods in unquoted file names for CANDE commands that have the same name as WFL statements but do not invoke WFL.
These commands are
CHANGE | REMOVE | SECURITY | START |
To allow the use of periods in unquoted file names in these four commands, precede the command with WFL to invoke the WFL statement directly and to apply the WFL syntax rules. Functional Command Groupings provides a quick reference to related commands.
The following CANDE commands support long node file names:
ADD | ALTER | CHANGE | COPY | LFILES |
REMOVE | SECURITY | TITLE | ?FA | |
ARCHIVE | CATALOG | MKDIR | MODIFY |
The long name node basic constructs listed in Basic Constructs apply to the file names used by these commands.
On a system that is not configured to support long file names, these commands truncate file name nodes that are greater than 17 characters.
On a system that is configured to support long file names, these commands do not truncate file name nodes that are greater than 17 characters.
Although several CANDE commands have the same name as WFL statements, these commands do not invoke WFL (and in some cases have different syntax or function than the identically named WFL statement).
These CANDE commands are
ACCESS |
BIND |
CHANGE |
COMPILE |
DO |
LOG |
MOVE |
PASSWORD |
REMOVE |
REPLACE |
RUN |
START |
STOP |
To invoke the WFL statements with these names, you must precede them with the CANDE WFL command, or include them in a job file and initiate the job with a START command.
