Setting the Query Processor Server Timeout Interval

The Query Processor server timeout interval is the number of minutes that the TCP/IP networking software must wait before closing (disconnecting) an idle TCP/IP dialog. The TCP/IP dialog is considered idle when the client does not respond to the inactivity handshake procedures from the server. If the client responds to the handshake procedures from the server, the connection cannot be automatically closed.

The Query Processor timeout interval consists of the <BLOCKEDTIMEOUT value> and the <DIALOGCHECKINTERVAL value>. The default timeout interval is 10 minutes. To change the timeout interval, enter the new timeout interval, in minutes, when the Query Processor server is initiated.

Note: The timeout interval cannot be modified once a network connection is made.

The following example illustrates a timeout value:

TCPIP 2012:10:5

In the preceding example, 10 indicates that the connection will be closed after 10 minutes of unresponsiveness from the client. The number 5 indicates that a confirmation is sent every five minutes. If there is no response, the information is declared as blocked. Once the information has been declared as blocked, the timeout interval begins and the connection closes after 10 minutes.
