The trace file is closed automatically when it reaches 50,000 records. If an error occurs during the writing of trace records, the trace file is also closed. Once the trace file is closed, a new trace file is initiated. Any error messages are written to the new trace file, followed by what would have been the next record in the closed trace file. The tracing continues in the new trace file.

If an error occurs while the new trace file is being created, the tracing is disabled and an error message is returned.
