This section describes the format of all messages transferred by the interface software.
This section contains the following subjects
Version message (see 6.1.1)
Usercode failure messages (see 6.1.2)
Utilization messages (see 6.2)
System event messages (see 6.3)
Disk monitoring messages (see 6.4)
Messages for Operations Sentinel (see 6.5)
Application Program Interface (API) messages (see 6.6)
SP-AMS and cross-system automation commands and responses (see 6.7)
Messages are transferred in both directions between a managed MCP host system and the Operations Sentinel server. The primary flow of messages is from the managed system to the Operations Sentinel server and provides a variety of information that is used by SP-AMS on the Operations Sentinel server to monitor and automate MCP operations.
In the other direction, Operations Sentinel sends commands to the MCP host system and solicits information from the MCP host system.
Notes:
The format and content of MCP system messages and commands are defined within MCP host system software. For a complete description, refer to the applicable MCP documents (for example, see the MCP System Messages Support Reference Manual).
You can also use the Operations Sentinel Log Viewer to display the messages as they were delivered to the Operations Sentinel server in real time. These messages are captured at the same time they are sent to the host system log. Displaying a log file allows you to learn the exact format and contents of messages. See the Operations Sentinel Log Viewer for a description of the log files and how to use them.
The message patterns in your site’s SP-AMS database must be updated to meet the needs and conditions at your site.
