Buffers Tab (OS 2200 Console)

Use the Buffers tab panel to configure how logical consoles handle buffer messages. Any change you make on the Buffers tab only affects the OS 2200 consoles that are hosted or recovered to this Operations Server after the change is applied. The changes do not affect any console that is currently running on the Operations Server unless you force the change to take effect by restarting the console.

By default, you use the message values set on the Operations Server. To change the values, clear this check box.

Fields

Maximum log messages queued

Controls how many messages a console can queue when the console does not have a connection to Operations Sentinel.

A larger value reduces the chance that messages are lost during an interruption in communication, but can adversely affect logical console performance. The default and recommended value is 256.

Maximum console hold buffer messages

Controls how many messages can be held in the hold pane of OS 2200 Console View. Suppressed hold messages are included in the count of messages held. A CP-AMS HOLD action causes messages to be written to the hold pane. Messages are removed either by you or a CP-AMS RELEASE action. When the maximum value is reached, new messages are discarded instead of being held in the hold pane.

A larger value reduces the chance that messages are lost, but can adversely affect logical console and OS 2200 Console View performance. The default and recommended value is 500.

Maximum traffic buffer messages

Controls how many messages a logical console stores in the traffic buffer. This is the number of messages that are sent to OS 2200 Console View when OS 2200 Console View connects to a console. Increase this value to create a longer history. The default and recommended value is 255.

Note: Increasing this value also increases the amount of time that it takes for OS 2200 Console View to connect and initialize with a console.

Buttons

Cancel discards any changes to the dialog box since the last time you clicked the Apply button and closes the dialog box.

Apply saves all changes to that point. The dialog box remains open so you can make additional changes.

OK saves all changes and closes the dialog box.
