Connecting a Managed System with a 25-Pin DCE Serial Port

To make the connections for a managed system or other device with a DCE connection, perform the following steps:

  1. Plug the 25-pin modem adapter supplied by the manufacturer of your terminal/communications server into the console or serial port of the managed system or to a modem or other DCE device.

  2. Connect the modem adapter to the terminal/communications server with an RJ-45 cable.

Figure H-8 shows how to connect a managed system (with a DCE port) to a network using a terminal/communications server.

Figure H-9 shows how to connect a managed system (with a DTE port) to a network. In this case, use a terminal adapter instead of a modem adapter. The terminal adapter should be from the terminal/communications server manufacturer.
