Installation Option 2

The second option is to install only the workstation component of Operations Sentinel on one or more Terminal Servers and then install the server component on another Windows server, which might or might not have Terminal Services installed. This is the recommended installation option. See Figure E-2. With this option, the Terminal Server(s) run the Operations Sentinel workstation components configured to link to another Windows server where the Operations Sentinel services are executing. This has the advantage of distributing the workload by putting the Operations Sentinel server on a separate server.

In this illustration, the Operations Sentinel workstation components and server components are installed on separate Windows servers. This distributes the workload among multiple servers. The comments discussed in “Installation Option 1” also applies to this illustration relative to the number of servers, clients, and monitored systems. The difference with this option is that when you start an Operations Sentinel workstation component, you instruct it to connect to the Operations Sentinel services on another server rather than the local server.
