Switching from one Operations Sentinel server to another is automatic when the connection is through a terminal/communications server console connection with one port.
When two sessions have active control (using direct serial connections with a splitter cabled to two destinations), both connected servers are considered primary and can send identical commands to the managed system. See “Determining the Secondary Operations Sentinel Server.” A failure of one server leaves the console session available on the other server.
When you have configured a TELNET or SSH session as the console, one for each Operations Sentinel server, each server has active control. In these cases, a failure of one server leaves the console (TELNET or SSH) session available on the other server.
