Installing the Windows SNMP Service

The Operations Sentinel Trap Service requires the Windows SNMP service to be installed and running on each Windows system on which you want to run Operations Sentinel Trap Service. If the SNMP service is not installed and running, the error message is displayed when you try to start Operations Sentinel Trap Service.

In the application, click Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services, right-click Operations Sentinel Trap Service. The Dependencies tab indicates the dependency on the Windows Trap Service, as shown in Figure 16–15.

Note: To open Services window on a 64-bit operating system, from the Start menu choose Run. In the Run dialog box, type services.msc -32 and click OK.

To install the Windows SNMP Service on the Windows 8.1 system or higher versions, perform the following steps:

  1. Click Start, Control Panel, and then Programs and Features.

  2. Click Turn Windows features on or off option on the window.

    The Turn Windows features on or off dialog box appears.

  3. Expand the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and select both SNMP and WMI SNMP Provider options.

  4. Click OK.

To install the Windows SNMP Service on the Windows Server Editions (see Section 1, “Overview” for information on supported server editions), perform the following steps:

  1. Start Server Manager, click Features, and then click Add Features.

    The Add Features Wizard appears.

  2. Locate SNMP services and select the appropriate check boxes.

  3. Click Next, and then click Install.

    After the installation completes, the installation results are displayed. In the Server Manager, the SNMP Services will be listed as installed components.
