Command event reports provide cross-system automation in response to console messages.
Required Attribute-Value Pairs
The following attribute-value pairs are required in a command event report:
TYPE | Value of CO for all command event reports. |
CLASS | Indicates the object type. |
INSTANCE | Name of the object (system) to which the command is sent. |
COMMAND | Specifies the command string that you want to send to the managed system. |
Optional Attribute-Value Pairs
The following attribute-value pairs are optional in a command event report:
APPL | Identifies the source of the command. |
APPLQUAL | Further identifies the source of the command. |
Restrictions
The following are the restrictions for using command event reports:
The system that is to receive the command must be defined in Operations Sentinel and have its Monitor property set to “true.”
If a system has two configured connections to Operations Sentinel server (for instance, one is a TELNET connection, and the other is a connection through a terminal/communications server), the system receives the command only once, but the connection used is not predictable.
[UNIX]
If a system is configured only for ping monitoring, it cannot receive commands.
If the Operations Sentinel server has not logged into a managed UNIX or Linux system, a command sent to that system appears to be successfully submitted, but the UNIX or Linux system misinterprets the command as an attempt to log in.
The Command Security for the systemmust be Unlimited Access or Automation Access. If the value of Command Security is Automation Access, the event report must originate from the active SP-AMS database.
[OS 2200]
The Command Security for the systemmust be Unlimited Access or Automation Access. If the Command Security is Automation Access, the event report must originate from the CP-AMS database of the console.
Commands submitted during the boot of an OS 2200 system are rejected.
If a managed OS 2200 system with two or more monitored consoles has sent a command, then only one of the consoles receives the command.
