All messages and event reports are logged, except that logging of suppressed messages are optional. You can control logging of these suppressed messages as described in the Operations Sentinel Console Help. If there are several consoles for a particular system, each console receives the same messages, and each copy of these messages is written to the same log.
The following factors determine the load on your Operations Sentinel server when you log OS 2200 message traffic:
Number of consoles that are generating messages
Message rate for each console
Rate at which event reports are generated for each system
Length of time that log files are kept before they are deleted
These factors vary greatly for different sites. To plan your storage requirements, start with two megabytes of logging per system per day. A few days of operation will help you estimate the actual requirements for your site. Experience has shown that the size of the log files varies greatly, with a range from 0.2 to 10 megabytes per system per day. The average size of a log message is about 60 bytes.
