OS 2200 Console Service Architecture

OS 2200 console architecture in ClearPath Dorado Enterprise Systems differs completely from that in legacy systems. OS 2200 partitions in ClearPath Enterprise Syetms do not require dedicated hardware for each console; instead, they use the concept of logical consoles (hereafter referred to as OS 2200 consoles). The Exec and applications running on an OS 2200 partition can direct console messages to the OS 2200 consoles, and operators use them for system operation.

OS 2200 consoles are hosted on one or more Operations Servers. An Operations Server is a standalone Windows server running Operations Sentinel server software; one is bundled with each ClearPath Dorado Enterprise Systems. Any Operations Sentinel server that hosts OS 2200 consoles is an Operations Server.

Each OS 2200 console is a counterpart of an Exec console in the OS 2200 operating system. The Exec console sends console messages to and receives operator commands from the OS 2200 console through a Service Processor. For console messages and console commands, a Service Processor acts as a conduit between OS 2200 partitions and the Operations Server where OS 2200 consoles are hosted.

An OS 2200 console acts as a server for the OS 2200 Console View application that can run on any Operations Sentinel workstation connected to the LAN. OS 2200 Console View provides a console window that allows an OS 2200 operator to operate an OS 2200 partition. See the Operations Sentinel OS 2200 Console View Help (7862 6363) for more details.

For platform management, a ClearPath Dorado Enterprise System contains Service Processors. Each Service Processor is a PC running a Windows operating system and Server Management Control. Server Management Control provides a graphical user interface called Server Management Control Client. See the Server Control Client Help (7862 7668) for details about using this application.
